3S “First-Time Capture: African Python’s Attempt to Swallow Antelope Photographed at Welgevonden Wildlife Reserve in South Africa” 3S

The rare images below were captured by Rudi Hulshof, a reserve manager at the Welgevonden Game Reserve in South Africa.

Rudi mentioned that he stumbled upon a nearly 5-meter-long python attempting to swallow an antelope while he was searching for tigers and leopards. He noted that it was the first time he had witnessed a python swallowing an antelope.

“I’ve been working as a wildlife reserve employee in South Africa and other countries for 15 years. However, this is the first time I’ve seen such a scene. As far as I know, no one has ever captured photos or footage of an African python swallowing an antelope in the wild,” Rudi said to the Daily Mail.

According to scientific literature, African pythons rarely attack large prey like adult antelopes. Instead, they typically hunt smaller animals such as rabbits, young antelopes, squirrels, lambs, birds, mice, and others.
