A particularly agile and elegant elephant made a bid for mangoes after clambering over a five-foot wall just like a human might.

The video shows the elephant climbing over the five-foot-high wall just to steal some mangoes from the safari lodge.

It has surprised people all over the web as not everyone knows elephants to be such gracious climbers.

General manager Ian Salisbury, 68, spotted the bull elephant calculating how to haul its four giant legs over the stone wall without falling over.

Once decided, he makes his way through first with his right then with his left, the slowly bringing his hind legs over.

A family of elephants usually visit the site between October and December, but this unexpected visitor was too late as mangoes are already out of season.

Ian, from originally from Bacup, Lancs, said: ‘He just chose the most direct route and made himself right at home.

‘The guests were very amused at the idea of a climbing elephant. They were in amazement that it would bother to climb over such a high wall”.
